+ Sermon points:

  1. Ask yourself: “Am I willing to admit I often take Jesus’ promise of heaven for granted?”

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house there are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? ”

                                                                    (John 14:1 – 2 and Psalm 23:6)

  1. Ask yourself: “Am I willing to trust Jesus’ promise of eternal life in heaven with Him??”

“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.”

                                                                   (John 14:3 and Isaiah 25:6 - 9)

“And you know the way to where I am going. Thomas said to him, ‘Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?’ Jesus said to him, ‘I am and the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”

                                        (John 14: 5 - 6 and Revelation 5:6 - 14)

Conclusion/ Question:

“How am I to step-out in faith as Jesus’ disciple with heaven as my final home?”

(Sermon Notes prepared by Pastor Warren A. Reichert for Grace Lutheran Church, Eaton, Ohio, September 4, 2016)

How to pray? A plan to help you “follow”* God in prayer:

Set a time and place for your prayer time with God (Start slowly and add times until you pray each day.)

Read the Gospel or another Scripture Lesson from today’s worship (see the Sermon Notes to direct your prayer time. Begin your prayer time asking yourself:

  1. What is one main thought, key insight or truth I gained from this passage?

  1. What does this thought, insight or truth say about Jesus?

  1. Ask God to help you apply His Word to your life, following Jesus and making followers of Him seeking heaven as your final home (Try praying: “Lord, I ask …” or “Lord, help me to…”).

Try writing your responses to the questions in a spiral notebook or composition notebook. Be gentle with yourself. Take your time with this new effort. Let the Word of God guide you following Christ. Look back over your first week, month, and so on, and see how the Lord is calling you to follow Him through His Word and with prayer.
