Sermon Notes for November 20, 2016

+Today’s Sermon: “Follow Jesus and Stand in The Strength of His Might”

+ Introduction / Question:

“How am I to follow Jesus and stand in the strength of His might against the enemy?”

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.”

(Ephesians 6:10 - 11)

+ Sermon points:

  1. Ask yourself: “Am I willing to submit myself to Jesus’ everlasting dominion?”

“And to Him (Jesus) was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples,  nations, and languages should serve Him; His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and His kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.”

(Daniel 7:14)

  1. Ask yourself: “Am I willing to believe that Jesus loves me as He freed me from my sins by His blood (His death and resurrection)?”

“To Him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by His blood…”                                                 (Revelation 1:5)

  1. Ask yourself: “Am I willing to stay ‘awake’ waiting for Jesus’ return inviting my family, friends and others to turn to Jesus as their Lord and Savior and also wait for Him?”

“And what I say to you I say to all: Stay awake.”

                                                   (Mark 13:36)

+Conclusion / Question:

How to pray? A plan to help you “follow”* God in prayer:

Set a time and place for your prayer time with God (Start slowly and add times until you pray each day.)

Read the Gospel or another Scripture Lesson from today’s worship (see the Sermon Notes to direct your prayer time). Begin your prayer time asking yourself:

  1. What is one main thought, key insight or truth I gained from this passage?

  1. What does this thought, insight or truth say about my standing in the strength of His might as I follow Jesus?

  1. Ask God to help you apply His Word to your life as you live following Jesus (Try praying: “Lord, I ask …” or “Lord, help me to…”).

Try writing your responses to the questions in a spiral notebook or composition notebook. Be gentle with yourself. Take your time with this new effort. Let the Word of God guide you following Christ. Look back over your first week, month, and so on, and see how the Lord is calling you to follow Him through His Word and with prayer.
