+Today’s Sermon:        “Bearing Peace Centered on Jesus”

+ Introduction / Question:

“How am I to bear the Gospel of peace centering my life on Jesus?”

Memory Verse for the Epiphany Season:

Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”

(John 14:27)

+ Sermon points:

  1. Ask yourself: “Do I center my life on Jesus to receive the peace only He can give?”

“Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them, ‘What are you seeking?’”                                                                                    (John 1:38; Isaiah 49:6)

  1. Ask yourself: “Do I want to know who Jesus is for my life to receive His peace?”

“He (Jesus) said to them, ‘Come and you will see.’”                                                                                                     (John 1:39; 1 Corinthians 1:6; 1 John 5:11 - 12)

  1. Ask yourself: “Do I share who Jesus is so my family, friends and others receive the peace only Jesus gives?”

“He (Andrew) first found his brother Simon and said to him, ‘We have found the Messiah’

     (which means the Christ).”

                         (John 1:41; 1 John 5:13)

+Conclusion / Question:

“How am I to bear the Gospel of peace centering my life on Jesus?”

(Sermon Notes prepared by Pastor Warren A. Reichert for Grace Lutheran Church, Eaton, Ohio, January 15, 2017)

How to pray? A plan to help you “follow”* God in prayer:

(*Mark 1:17: ESV - “And Jesus said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.")

Set a time and place for your prayer time with God (Start slowly and add times until you pray each day.)

Read the Gospel or another Scripture Lesson from today’s worship (see the Sermon Notes to direct your prayer time). Begin your prayer time asking yourself:

  1. What is one main thought, key insight or truth I gained from this passage?

  1. What does this thought, insight or truth say to you about centering your life on Jesus?

  1. Ask God to help you apply His Word to your life as you live with Jesus’ gift of grace (Start your prayer: “Lord, I ask …” or “Lord, help me to…”).

Try writing your responses to the questions in a spiral notebook or composition notebook. Be gentle with yourself. Take your time with this new effort. Let the Word of God guide you following Christ. Look back over your first week, month, and so on, and see how the Lord is calling you to follow Him through His Word and with prayer.
