+ Introduction / Question:

“How am I living by faith for God’s glory?”

Memory Verse for the Epiphany Season:

“Every word of God proves true; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.”

(Proverbs 30:5)

+ Sermon points:

  1. Ask yourself: “Am I living by faith for God’s glory?”

“But He was pierced for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with His wounds we are healed.”                                        (Isaiah 53:5)

  1. Ask yourself: “Am I living each day by faith resting on the power and glory of God for my life?”

“…in demonstration of the Spirit and of power that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.”                                                                     (1 Corinthians 2:4 - 5)

  1. Ask yourself: “Am I living by faith glorifying God with my family, friends and others so they come to saving faith in Jesus and glorify Him in their lives?”

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

                                 (Matthew 5:16)

+Conclusion / Question:

“How am I living by faith for God’s glory?”

(Sermon Notes prepared by Pastor Warren A. Reichert for Grace Lutheran Church, Eaton, Ohio, February 5, 2017)

How to pray? A plan to help you “follow”* God in prayer:

(*Mark 1:17: ESV - “And Jesus said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.")

Set a time and place for your prayer time with God (Start slowly and add times until you pray each day.)

Read the Gospel or another Scripture Lesson from today’s worship (see the Sermon Notes to direct your prayer time). Begin your prayer time asking yourself:

  1. What is one main thought, key insight or truth I gained from this passage?

  1. What does this thought, insight or truth say to you about living by faith for God’s glory?

  1. Ask God to help you apply His Word to your life (Start your prayer: “Lord, I ask …” or “Lord, help me to…”).

Try writing your responses to the questions in a spiral notebook or composition notebook. Be gentle with yourself. Take your time with this new effort. Let the Word of God guide you following Christ. Look back over your first week, month, and so on, and see how the Lord is calling you to follow Him through His Word and with prayer.
